Mentora
Mentora is a platform for the professional and personal development of young women and mothers in Guatemala. Mentora stands against sexual and civil violence and raises awareness about the risks and dangers of being a woman in the country. The project offers small financial grants combined with mentorship for professional development. Each participant is paired with a mentor with whom they maintain regular contact throughout their studies.
Currently, we collaborate with two coordinators — one in the capital, Guatemala City, and one in the village of San Juan la Laguna. The coordinators know the participants from previous work in schools or youth shelters and are responsible for ensuring that the women apply for support, receive the funds, and sign a certificate confirming their participation. The money is not a scholarship and will only cover part of the total cost of studies. However, the idea is that this contribution could make a crucial difference between being able to afford studying or not.
The allocation of financial support and mentors takes place twice a year, once per semester.
